Steal This List of Pubs

I keep a lot of lists in my Big Binder of Stuff I use to run my games. rn (right now) I am assembling a list of plausible pub names. Some are real and some are made up.

Well, ultimately, they’re all made up, aren’t they?

Steal it. Or add to it in the comments!

Wit’s End

The Druid

God Willing

Bridge over the troll

The Broken Arms

Knucklebones

Hag’s Pot

Hog Wallers

The Dove

The Bunch of Grapes

Kingshead (charges for drinks in predecimal currency)

The Piper - live music

The Shambles

Hand & Flowers

Ye Olde Fighting Cocks

Tarts & Mead

Hooden Horse

Coronation Cider House

The Hatchet has axe throwing and a boxing ring

The Brass Dragon

De Hens - a gnome pub

My starting town, Cragstone, is known for its honey. It also has a slaughterhouse. Therefore the two pubs will be the Tart & Mead and The Shambles. The inn is the Brass Dragon. It’s a staging inn with a gallery - which means you can drive your cart or coach right up and they will stable the horses for you.

What will your starting town pub be called?

Crown & Valor Update

Among other d&d things, I put the Crown & Valor player’s guide manuscript to bed. I’ve got a really good idea of what the front and back covers will look like: almost the same as Treasure Hunters looked.

What I am wondering is, is there somewhere I can get saddle stitched books POD? Neither Amazon nor lulu have that choice. There are some places that will do it but they’re all super expensive. I simply can’t afford to spend $500 on 25 copies.

Another thing I got done today was sleeving the big binder of stuff. There are two to four more sheets of paper to go in, and then it’s done.

I discovered that when I took all the handouts out and put them in a separate binder, I didn’t need to keep the 3 1/2” one - I went to two 2” binders instead. This seems like it would be bulkier, but it’s going to be easier at the table because half of it can stay off to the side.

Two of the sheets are done now, ready to print tomorrow. They are the procedures for monthly upkeep and winter upkeep. Taxes, diseases, rumors, omens, homage gifts, weddings and births and funerals.

Then diseases, which I will write this week, and then done. All done. And very slim.

Constructing the Big Book of Stuff

The last campaign I ran ended in early 2020 because half my table were pandemic enthusiasts. I had assembled an amazing binder of stuff to use to run a game - any game that goes in any direction - completely on the fly. No thinking, no flipping through six million books.

Then I lost that binder.

So I’m putting together a team. Or in this case, a new binder. It looks like this right now but of course it’ll change as I get gooder at this.

10 Dividers

  1. Handouts: Bullpens, character sheets, roll up guides, spell sheets, calendars, time trackers, graph paper, unusual storeboughts sheet
  2. Seasonal events and calendar - wars, omens, winter upkeep
  3. Town adventures, NPCs, henchmen for hire, procedures for hiring them, rumors and hooks sheets
  4. Dungeon: the current thing (remove from binder for play?)
  5. Monsters: monster manual, dungeon wandering monsters
  6. Treasure including unique materials
  7. Wilderness and overland, with procedures, weather, wonders and wanderers by biome, and a supply countdown sheet. Also disease rules.
  8. One-page dungeons and modules not being played.
  9. Full spell list; spell handout sheet
  10. One-off handouts such as paladin rules, spell research procedures, and unique swords
